Intoduction to Ignatian Prayer  will be presented by Gini Grommes, at the Centre for Spiritual Care on Thursday evenings Jan.19, Jan. 26, Feb.2, Feb.9. from 7:00-8:30pm.

Participants will practice and experience Ignatius’ way of praying with the mind and imagination. We will focus on the life and actions of Jesus from the Gospels. Prayer both meditative and contemplative leads us into a personal relationship with God. It also assists us in becoming more present to God in our daily lives. Come enter into Ignatian prayer with us for four weeks.

GiniGini is a retired Director of Religious Education, a Master Catechist and a member of the Ignatian Christian Life Community throughout the world.  From Pittsburgh, PA., she is an active member of a local CLC community, the Community of Hope. Gini has completed the Ignatian Exercises and the Bridges Companion Program in Pittsburgh. She is presently taking training for the Guides Course, to be able to begin new CLC groups.  For the Centre
Free Will Offerings will be gratefully accepted.

Ethical Wills

ethical will book Congratulations to Carol Ludwig, co-founder of the Center for Spiritual Care, who recently completed a training and certification program in Boston, Massachusetts, on the writing of Ethical Wills. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Barry Baines, MD, a decades-long consultant to Hospice programs and author of Ethical Wills: Putting Your Values on Paper (Da Capo Press, 2006).  Carol offers spiritual companioning, retreats and spiritual growth experiences at the Vero Beach Center.

An ethical will is an ancient tradition for passing on to family, friends and community a comprehensive statement of your personal values, hopes, and life lessons.   It’s a way to insure that your spiritual legacy is available to your children and grandchildren in a form that you choose.

Contemporary people consider it essential to have a legal will and a Living Will, but neglect this most important aspect of the foot prints they leave behind in this world.  Guaranteeing that your valuables are appropriately passed on is one thing; insuring that your values are passed on is the point of an Ethical Will.

Carol is available for individual consultations, small group presentations, seminars, and 4-6 hour workshops on the subject of Ethical Wills. Contact her at the Center for Spiritual Care: 772-567-1233.

Group Spiritual Direction

In group spiritual direction 4-6 people gather in a prayerful atmosphere on a monthly basis to talk about their personal spiritual journey and to assist one another in discovering God in their daily lives. The heart of group spiritual direction is prayerful sharing.  Groups already formed and meeting are closed groups.  If you are interested in group spiritual direction and/or would like to be part of a new group, please call us at the Center for Spiritual Care.

2012 Lenten Retreat @ Home

Our third annual “Lenten Retreat @ Home” will begin with a gathering on Sunday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m. here at the Center for Spiritual Care.

This program is intended for people seeking a deeper relationship with God.  It is designed to provide a retreat-like experience while you continue your daily work and home responsibilities during the six weeks of Lent.

The demands and distractions of a busy life often overshadow our ever present hunger for a more intimate relationship with God.  Lent is a good time to give God priority and time in your schedule.  The Lenten scriptural readings are well suited to a fruitful and faithful prayer life.

The program will be facilitated by trained Spiritual Directors who can help you examine your life and the priority that prayer, conversation with God, has taken in it.  Each participant will agree to pray daily for about thirty minutes, and will have the opportunity to meet for a personal session each week with his/her Spiritual Director.

This year’s retreat team includes:  Helen Bolil, Sally Byrnes, Deacon Dave Hankle, Bob Howlett, Carol Ludwig, and Maureen Schlitt.  All have received spiritual direction formation training for a number of years.  Weekly one-to-one sessions will provide an opportunity to explore any particular insights or invitations arising from participants’ daily prayer time.  Scripture-based prayer materials will be provided to supplement what participants may already use for daily prayer.

Please call the Center for Spiritual Care or Bob Howlett for more detailed information or for questions you may have.  At our February 19 meeting, we will provide participants with a listing of tips to help deepen their daily prayer time and a copy of “Not by Bread Alone” by Bishop Robert Mourneau.
