Pysanky Easter Egg Dying                                                                 March 11, 18, 25, 2010

Join Marg Putzke in this traditional Ukrainaian way of making wax-dyed eggs to celebrate the fertility and new life Easter brings.  Participants will learn how to make and care for these gems in Session 1.  Sessions 2,3 & 4 provide an opportunity to practice the technique and create additional eggs. The symbolism of the egg is not lost on Marg Putzke, nor is her Polish heritage. Combining the two, lead her to explore the ancient art of Pysanky, Polish/Ukrainian egg decorating. Using authentic tools, wax, dyes, and spiritual symbols, we will create artful eggs throughout the weeks of Lent leading to the celebration of Easter.

Spiritual Aspects of the Enneagram Workshop                                    January 9 & 10, 2010

Jerry Wagner will be conducting this two day seminar on the Enneagram and spirituality.    Intended as a follow-up to Enneagram Certification Training, this experience will help spiritual directors and people in ministry better assist those they serve.

We will explore the following questions from the Enneagram perspective:

When do you experience yourself as spiritual?  And when do you feel not-so-spiritual? What keeps you from being spiritual?  What are you passionate about?  What divine aspect is God inviting to surface in you now?  Is there a way that the not-so-spiritual in you represents a dark spot that hasn’t yet come to the light?

Our personality, which contains our idealized self-image, is like an idol, a graven image of our essence.  Like an idol, it offers us safety and protection from harm; but it is also fearsome and threatening.  We must follow its dictates or risk being vulnerable.  Our personality idol promises to take care of us; but we must make the proper sacrifices to it, including the sacrifice of our soul child.

If we decommission our idol, we have resources available to us where we normally don’t expect them:  in our shadow, the polar opposite of our personality, the very place our idols tell us to avoid.

We’ll look at the false promises and threats of our idol and the sacrifices we are asked to make to gain its protection.  We’ll also look, against the advice of our personality, at our shadow to find hidden parts of ourselves that can lead us to wholeness.

Cost:  $195.  To reserve space, contact us at the Center for Spiritual Care.

Lenten Retreat at Home                                                                    Begins February 17, 2010

A Lenten Journey of Guided Prayer begins February 17 and continues until Easter Sunday.  We will be using the booklet: Christ Our Hope, reflections by the late Henri Nouwen, one of the most widely read spiritual writers of our time. His deeply moving spiritual insights and prayerful conversations with God are particularly timely during this holy season of Lent when we contemplate the Christ who is our hope through his suffering, death and resurrection.

If you seek a deeper and more intimate relationship with God, then consider this a personal invitation to join us this Lent for a retreat-like experience as you continue your daily work and home responsibilities. Of all the “holy” times and seasons included in our liturgical year, Lent is best suited through its scripture readings, special liturgies, and its length, to prepare us to become better aware of and receive more fully the gift of God’s love, His very self!   The necessary response to the longing deep within us is to examine our prayer life and be open to experiences – especially new ones – that may enrich it. To that end a six week Guided Prayer Retreat Experience, led by trained Spiritual Directors, is being offered. Each person participating in this Lenten Journey will seek to pray daily for about thirty minutes, and all retreatants will have the opportunity to meet for a personal session once each week with his or her own director for approximately 45 minutes. Your Spiritual Director will discuss prayer with you and any particular insights or invitations that may arise during the daily prayer periods.  Please click the link:  Commitment Response for a printable Lenten Retreat Commitment Response form.
