Prayerful Knitting 
Wednesdays,
3:30- 5:00pm


This prayerful group meets weekly to knit or crochet prayer shawls for use by friends and relatives, especially for people who are suffering from physical,  emotional or mental illnesses.  As participants knit this easily crafted pattern, they pray for each other's needs and for friends and family members. Sessions include music, spoken prayer for each other and quiet intercessory prayer for the shawls' intended recipient. 

 
Donations Accepted:  Bring your own materials or use the donated materials at the Center for Spiritual Care, no experience necessary with prayer or knitting.

 

 

 

Zen Meditation Group

Wednesday evenings 7:00 p.m.

             Learn Zen Meditation beginning Wednesday, November 7th, 7 -8:30.  Zen teacher Al Rapaport, Director of Open Mind Zen Center in Melbourne, FL.  will be conducting a beginning workshop in Zen Meditation.  Attendees will learn basic meditation techniques and receive information on how they can develop a personal meditation practice to reduce stress and clarify the mind.  No experience is necessary and participants can use a cushion or sit in a chair.  This session will inaugurate a regular Wednesday 7pm meditation group that will be led either by Al or a Senior Student at Open Mind Zen that will meet here at the Center.

A small donation is requested.  Please bring cushions to sit on if you prefer to sit on the floor.

Taize', France

Monthly Taize Chant Prayer 
Fridays 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Come and experience the world famous ecumenical prayer chant service from Taize' France. This prayer form, just begun after World War II to bring peace and reconciliation to Europe, has become popular around the globe. It offers a quiet, simple way to get in touch with your spirit and breathe into deeper places. Maureen Schlitt will lead this program. Marg Putzke will provide the accompaniment   Anyone can master these simple chants in one session. Vocalists are especially welcome. Dr. Douglas Canterbury-Counts is a licensed psychologist and practicing neuropsychologist with a doctoral degree from Temple University and wide range of clinical experience. Dr. Doug is trained in the area of psychospiritual transformation, holding an earned Master's of Divinity degree with an emphasis in the psychology of C.G. Jung.. He was pleased to participate in formation of the Center for Jungian Studies of SE Florida, Inc. in 1989 and served on their Board of Directors until his move to Sebastian, VL in 1996.  Dr. Doug is the founder of the Center for Sacred Psychology and the southeast coordinator for the Sacred Passages Wilderness training program.

Dr. Doug will invite participants into a community of those seeking a sacred life

 

All presentations will be held at the Center for Spiritual Care, 1150 25th Street, Vero Beach, FL unless otherwise indicated. Meeting times are from 7:30 to 9:00.  Seating is limited and reservations are recommended.  Typical seminar presentations will be for one hour, followed by refreshments and discussion with the speaker.  A ten dollar ($10.00) donation to support the Center for Spiritual Care is requested.  Dates are:

Ceramicist Leslie Curry will employ her potter's gifts to help participants create meaningful clay artifacts. 

 

A quiet reflective time for potters, painters, poets and dreamers to creatively allow the Artist God “to mold us, shape us, fill us, use us” as we pray and work with clay, colors, word, fantasy and imagination. There will be an opportunity to work with clay and the wheel.

Sixth Annual Icon Workshop

Participants will create an icon using ancient techniques and natural materials rich with symbolic meaning. Each step in the process has a corresponding symbolic meaning; the underlying theology of icon "writing" will be emphasized. The class will be provided with detailed instructions and all supplies and materials. No previous artistic study required.

($250 deposit by December 15 is required to hold your place.)

Enneagram Workshop

Anyone interested in personal development and insight into their own personality style and the styles of people in their life should attend.  Participants will learn the history and theoretical framework of the Enneagram, and key features of the nine styles.  Jerry Wagner, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist and training supervisor.  He is a faculty member at Loyola University, Chicago.  He is also the author of an Enneagram guide, inventory, and cassette series.   One of the earliest students of the Enneagram, he has been giving workshops and doing research on the Enneagram for more than two decades.

A "Gathering of Women" 

December 11. January 15, February 12 and March 11

10:00a.m. - 3:00p.m.

Gathering of Women is part of a tradition at the Center for Spiritual Care. We meet four times a year for days of quiet and reflection retreat.

 We meet from 10am - 3pm. We gather women to support and affirm each other on our spiritual journey. We use song, scripture, sacred listening and sharing to connect with our inner selves and other women as we move through the seasons. Bring your own lunch. A $35 donation is requested for each session. Materials are included.  Bring your own lunch.  Days this year are led by spiritual directors Maureen Schlitt and Carole Turano.

 

 

 

The Artist's Way


Ten Weeks

Learn to unleash your creative potential and identify issues that sabotage our health and well-being. Based on Julia Cameron's book, this eight-week course focuses on recovering your creative self. Highly recommended for artists, teachers, counselors and anyone interested in living more authentically and creatively. Features daily morning pages, a weekly artist's date, and small group interaction. Past participants have found doing Cameron's process in a group highly preferable to soldiering through the process alone. Topics covered include recovering a sense of safety, identity, power, integrity, possibility, abundance, connection, strength, compassion, self-protection, autonomy and faith. Back by popular demand, Carol and Maureen will offer another session if ten or more people agree to take the course and do the work. Veterans say it's much better the second time  We will be using the book The Artist Way by Julian Cameron

"Pysanky" Easter Egg Dying

Four-Week Workshop

Leslie Curry will lead participants in this annual traditional Ukrainian Easter egg dying experience. She will teach and illustrate the historic Eastern Orthodox religious symbols and their meanings. Participants will have the opportunity to create an exquisite egg on site and take home materials to create more with friends, grandchildren or artistic colleagues. All materials supplied. Group Spiritual Direction

Groups formed on a on-going basis 

Group Spiritual Direction is offered at the Center for Spiritual Care with 4-5 people in a group. Each group meets together monthly to spend quiet, meditative time together examining the spiritual aspects of their lives. The group is place where participants can pray for each other's needs and share the stuff of their lives forming a small community of support and encouragement. Meditation Garden Volunteer Day

January 26, 10:00a.m. - 1:00p.m.

Our work on the Meditation Garden continues.  Hale and hearty folds are welcome to help us week out the old and prepare to plant the new.  We hope to complete our garden renovation in two work days in January.  A team of knowledgeable and hard-working people who can dig, lift, plant, water and nurture living plants and shrubs is required.  We also need people who can help install a trellis or fence.  If you love nature, or just want to help, come join us.
